Hi i am working on a site and the client wants categories in the main area on a speed bar button, like a products page.

I created a html page linking all the categories to the category template and this works well, the only problem is when you add or delete a category it needs to be updated and this is not feasible, all i need is a copy of the categories template in the middle on a speed button but the php doesnt seem to work on a new page, any help would be great cheers Andy.

Look, the forum rules are in place for a reason. It is my job as a moderator to see that they are followed. If you want a guaranteed answer to your question, post a ticket with X-Cart. Otherwise, have some patience, do a little research for yourself and wait for an answer from the forums.
