You may want to consider hiring a pro, as that is not a simply template tweak you are talking about.

it is 2 table background images and 2 table gackgruond colours
with a bg colopuyr for the entire template

doesnt see that hard
just not sure where to look

Relax, I'm not trying to sell you anything. All of the styles are controlled in skin1.css if you want to give it a shot. Use Webmaster Mode to determine which template is which, open up the templates, see how they are layed out and then modify accordingly.
