Default adding a menu box to either side of page
I'm sure it's got to be here somewhere, and I've searched, but I'm a noob and probably not using the right terminology so please bear with me!

What's the easiest method of adding more menu boxes to either side of each page? I want the menu layout and colors to look identical to the category, cart, etc. boxes. I just need to add my own content like links to my discussion group and other non-cart pages in my site.
