Change displayed category names?

Default Change displayed category names?
Can the category names that are displayed be changed without changing the name attached to the items in the category?

I would like to add a word or two to some of the category names that are displayed but I don't want to have to change the category names on the thousands of items in the category.

Example: if my site sells nothing but books and my category names are fiction, romance, sports, etc, can I add the word "books" to each category name without having to revise all of the items?
