Default Weird template editing issue - help!

One of my clients installed X-Cart Gold 4.4.1 and the Artistic Tunes (Business) template is set as the default skin. I'm trying to customize this design, but any changes uploaded into the "/skin/artistictunes_business/" directory or the "/skin/common_files/" directory, are not showing on the site! I tried clearing the template cache - no go.

Also, when looking at the source code, this is the CSS file being referenced: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/loader_7270f8c575ccf8a89064292fcbcf7489.css" />

I've edited other 4.4 skins with no problem, so I have no idea what's going on with this site. Any ideas?

Is the js and css compression enabled there? Maybe is a caching issue contents ttl?

Turn off the CSS compression while you develop the site...

It's under Settings -> General Settings -> General (Under Core Options)... Near the bottom of the screen under the "CSS and JavaScript optimization tools" section, uncheck the "Use speed-up tool for CSS"...

Thank you! That makes sense. Now I see the info in the source code, but template changes still don't seem to be taking.

It seems that this compression thing does not work correctly with additional templates, for example product rating images are broken...no matter which template is selected.

Anybody else had issues with this not working at all (i.e. not combining files) ?

I think my editing issue is being caused by upload permissions. I noticed this morning that I was getting an error message when uploading files. I tried FTP, SFTP, and SCP, and the all say the file isn't being uploaded. So at least now I know I'm not crazy! Hopefully the host can resolve this issue.

I just upgraded to 4.4.1 and can't get the loader to work for my client still. I've cleared template cache, cleared browser cache, forced cache generation in x-cart, still 40+ css and js files being loaded. They are on the vivid dreams aquamarine template which I'm wondering if it's the issue.
