I'm trying to transpose the look and feel of an existing html web site into xcart. I'm getting there although I still have some CSS issues

What I would like to do isd two things.

1: Insert spacer into catergories menu to define the catergories. These need to be dynamic so I can alter them with the POS setting as and when. I would imagine this has already been done but I can't find anything here. I was thinking maybe an if then else to check the content of the catergory name but I assume that you cannot have two catergories with the same name. I guess you could use a left$ test for this and use spacer1, spacer2 and so on. If this has been done could someone point me in the right direction.

2: That old goat pictures in showing ahead of a sub catergory name on the sub cat page. I know this has been done but again I can't find it.

Any pointers would be much appreciated as I'm fast running out of time on this one.
