Question Categories and multiple categories for one product -

Hi all,

I'm looking for a way to change the way the categories menu displays products.

I have several Log Cabin products and want to place them in to multiple categories. ie 0 - 9m2, 44mm walls, single glazed etc.

Each product would then be assigned to the relevant categories.

What I then want to happen is when the main product category is clicked (ie Log Cabins) then subcategory page then displays all the relevant subcategories the product belongs to at the top.

If you take a look at

http://www.gardenbuildingsdirect.co.uk

You will see the main category menus (ie sheds, etc).

If you then clock on Log Cabins you will see the different subcategories available. As per below.

http://www.gardenbuildingsdirect.co.uk/Log-Cabins

This is the kind of thing I am trying to achieve.

Is there an easy way of doing this? Do I just create subcategories of Log Cabins and then edit the relevant template file? Is there a mod available to do this?

Is it also possible to change the Category menu to only display the subcategory links once a category is clicked in to?

My site is http://www.cortneyco.com/shop/home.php

Thanks in advance for any help or advice given.

John

X-cart will list the subcategories by default. If you make a subcategory of sheds then it will by default be shown at the top of the "shed" listing. By default the text is on the small side, but as always this can be changed. The subcategory listing appears a little on the wide side to me so I cut it in half and used the place where the category icon would be to put in some text. I imagine with a little work you could put a "featured product" in there instead. In that way it would look similar to your example.

hi, jon, i like your category display that the subcategory will show in categories.tpl and will only show the subcategory select, because i have over 50 subcategories, and if they show with root categories together, it will be long page of left hand column, do you mind sharing your categories.tpl to me, thanks

I modified my menu ages ago and now I can't find how to get subcategories to work. Has anyone got the original coding for categories.tpl and which file so I can put it back please.

Thanks.
