Help! I have a large grey bar extending most of the way across my front page that is empty. I would like to remove it, or move my center box and right side column up to cover it... to make it even horizontally with the left side column.

I purchased my store from someone else who configured it and they used to have photos inside the now big empty grey space. I was able to delete those images, but still have the empty space. Please help me get rid of it and move the rest of my content up.

If it was customized, your best bet is to use Webmaster Mode to track down the template that is calling the grey box so that you can remove it.
