Default A Test Copy of my XCart

I want to play with my design, but my site is live. What's the process for making a copy of my store so I can play withoy impacting customers?
Does the license permit it?
If I make a copy of my xcart folder, sql database and change the configureation file so the xcartBAK instance points to the SQL copy, am I safe?

Anything else I might want to do to protect myself?

I would close the dev store and access it with the store key or htaccess protect the directory.
Also disallow robots.

Not a possibility. I have a very active store. It would be very expensive to close it down so I could fool with it.

I meant close the copy of the store.

You may want to set your creidt card payment method to use your gateway in test mode to prevent any actual charges to a credit card. Or even switch to manual credit card processing unless testing the gateway.

So the steps would be:
1) Make a complete copy of the xcart directory
2) Copy the sql database
3) Change the backup's config.php file to reflect the database copy
4) Close the backup store, requiring the key to get in
5) Change all Processing to 'test mode'

- I'll change the storename so that I can be sure I'm always working on the copy.

Questions:
a) Am I going to get any grief about running 2 copies on the same license?
b) What about the https? I assume I'll get some kind of security warning.
c) am I missing anything?
