Default can't login after adding www to https setting in config.php

Hi,
I recently bought an SSL that's configured for www.domainname.com
It was working correctly for the admin section, but when i would go to the checkout on the front end, I would get redirected to https://domainname.com and get a message - "the security certificate presented belongs to www.domainname.com." (the firefox message is especially long and scary)

so, i went into my config file and changed the
$xcart_https_host setting to have the www.domainname.com

now the front end worked fine, but i couldn't login to the backend.
after i entered my login/password i would get redirected back to the login page where it would say:
Welcome to administration area
After logging in you will be able to control every aspect of your e-store

I tried both secure and unsecure logins and would get the same thing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jenny

Do you have an .htaccess file redirecting you in your admin section?

If you've updated the config.php in X-Cart to use the WWW, then it SHOULD be working.

I know this may seem like a dumb question, but are you sure you're using the right username & password?

Please don't post third party module information in the forums, as that is a paid mod. I have removed it from your post. That .htaccess file does not affect your http/https or login, so I don't think that is the problem.

We are experiencing this same admin page issue.

- Initially had hosts set without www and could access admin without problems.
- Checkout was not redirecting to https so we changed config.php using www.domainname.com as both http and https hosts.
- Now admin does not allow access past home.php. When user name and login are entered, the page refreshes back to itself (admin/home.php)

We can manually access the https connection and the ssl is valid and set up correctly.

We set up several administrators prior to this issue and have tried all combos so I do not think it is a validation issue. We have made no changes to any htaccess file before or after this issue started.

admin/.htaccess contents:
DirectoryIndex home.php

It turned out that this was just a caching problem for us.
Try emptying the cache and refreshing, and maybe that will work.

Thanks for the reply Jenny.

We have tried on six different machines in four different browsers at two different locations and all with cleared browser trash (cache, histories, temps, dns) and still no success...

We have also been in contact with our host and they can not find anything that may be causing the behavior.

We'll keep looking and post back if we find anything.

in your config.php

$xcart_http_host ="www.yourdomain.com";
$xcart_https_host ="www.yourdomain.com";

then put the folowing in your .htaccess just before your DirectoryIndex line (if your have installed x-cart in root)

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteBase /
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]
</IfModule>

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteBase /
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.yourdomain\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.yourdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]
</IfModule>
