Default Newbie question: limitation for storefront design

Hi everyone,

I just purchase X-cart this week and am trying to setup the storefront. However I ran into a stumbling block. First of all, I only have some rudimentary knowledge on HTML and CSS; and SMARTY is just completely new to me. So I am currently trying to read and understand more about them. Although I am trying to learn as much as possible by myself, I am hoping someone here can give me some guidance so to help speed up the learning process. So thank you in advance.

My first question:

From X-cart▓s FAQ page, I understand that it is not possible to use a web design program (such as Dreamweaver) to build the storefront. However a webpage design can be created in Dreamweaver . To implement that design to X-cart▓s storefront, an integration process is needed. This process is done on the code level (html, CSS, SMARTY). But what I am trying to understand is whether there is a limitation to the integration. In other words, can integration be done to ANY designs? The default storefront look like this:

http://www.xenarcdirect.com/home.php
(BTW, this is not my store, just one that I found who is using the default X-cart skin)

IS it possible to make it look like this?:
http://www.artmeetsmatter.com/
or

http://www.sears.com/
(I used these as examples because they just look very different from the default designs)

Anyway thank you guys. I▓ll probably have more questions. I▓ll post them on new threads.

Why dont you have a look at the members website section of this forum...

If you give you a list of sites that have been developed using the x-cart system by the forum members.

Re: Dreamweaver / Smarty have a look at this: http://smartydwt.klitsche.org/
(Personally I've never used it)

This following post is quite good as well:

I looked through some of the member websites here. I found some that are very interesting, and will use them as references for my own design. However I am still wondering about the limitation.

So has anyone encountered a design that they just could not integrate into x-cart?
