Customization Question
I have been applying a few of the mods that I have found here. When it is time to do an upgrade, do you have to redo all the customizations, or do they stay in place.

Re: Customization Question
If you've modified templates and you try to upgrade...that templates will have to be patched manually.

Re: Customization Question
For the most part, your templates will have to be "dealt with"...
This doesn't always mean re-doing everything. If you use a good ftp client w/ linked or integrated text editor, you can "comapre" the files and without too much pain, compare the changes and simply bring yours up-to-date. Templates typically don't have massive changes -- in fact, very few templates were involved in the 4.1.2 to .3, .4, .5 and .6 upgrades. Most of the time, the files are the php and non "skin1" files... but there are/will be template files... but as I said, there are ways around this. When upgrading, my outbursts to X-CArt ranged from "I HATE YOU" to "wow, this was easy." My key to upgrade survival is my master changelog. I have a text file that I document EVERY edit, every change. I go crazy when 3rd party mod developers or xcart "fix things" without telling me specifically what they did. If you keep track of your edits and changes, and use a text editor with a "compare" feature, you should be in pretty good shape. No worries!

Re: Customization Question
I use a program called Compare It that is great for opening two files side by side so that you can compare differences and making changes with ease. But, the end result of "any" changes to X-Cart is that those files will have to be manually patched....whether you change one file or 20.....
I always keep track of my changes...as carpeperdiem said...that's the best way and if you have someone make the changes to X-Cart for you....always ask for a list of files that were modified. Best of luck, Louise

Re: Customization Question
Can you recommend a good ftp client w/ linked or integrated text editor. I have tried both Ipswitch and Cute ftp. I seem to like Cute ftp better, but if Ipswitch is a better ftp client I will get use to using it. I have not found the text editor in Ipswitch yet thought.
IF you can recoment either of these, or a program that s better please let me know.
