Default thumbnail sizing to accommodate image layout
We have items which are sometimes displayed vertically and sometimes horizontally.

Therefore, when we give a thumbnail image size (within the products pages) of say 100 pixels wide, the product which is being display horizontally looks very small.

So I suppose my question is...

Does anyone have any idea on how to scale thumbnail images to a percentage of the widest X or Y of an image? (Not just re-sizing to a maximum width.)
