Having this exact same problem. Shouldn't the system requirements for xcart 5.2 reflect php 5.3.9 or greater instead of what it currently reflects?
X-Cart 4.7.0 and later: PHP version 5.3.0 or later is required (PHP versions below 5.3.7 are not recommended for security reasons). Just spent 500 dollars on a piece of software that doesn't function properly eventho it is within the specs listed on the website.
