How do I change the text in the footer thanks area of the invoice

look in order_invoice.tpl - it is a language variable somewhere at the end of the file

txt_thank_you_for_purchase

you can change its text from admin languages

In X-Cart 5 you are to edit the "Thank you for your order FOOTER" label:
Back-end -> Store Setup -> Translations -> Edit labels tab.
