I am looking to add some categories which don't show up in the main category list - but which act like live categories.

I would like them to be displayed on the front page like the featured products are (but link to the categories, not individual products)

Any ideas?

Add the categories, set their position field to start lets say from 1000, in categories.tpl use an if statement to show only categories with position below 1000. For the front page use foreach statement to loop through the categories and show categories with position above 1000
