Default Hiding main categories

I would like to hide the following categories on my main page:

Home
and the subcategories underneath it
Accessories, Apparel and Performance parts

I tried the admin section "categories" and choose not to enable, however this hides all the categories including the ones I want. Is there a simple way to not show the Home section? Below highlighted in RED is what I would like to hide from the navigation menu.

It looks as though "accessories", 'apparel", and "performance parts" are actually sub-categories, not categories. Do you have a category named "home"? Make "accessories", 'apparel", and "performance parts" categories (move them from where they are to "root") instead of a sub-category of home. This should leave you with "accessories", 'apparel", "performance parts" and "home" (if that is a category) as categories. Then determine that there are no sub-categories of "home" and no products there. Once you do that you should be able to eliminate "home" (try disabling it first, before deleting it).

OK, I've tried what you suggested by moving a category to the "root" area. However, when I do this I get the error "category does not exist" and the category is moved under "Home" and can not be deleted or modified. I attached some ss of what I'm talking about along with a snap of the sql database categories. I'm really trying to figure this out, I want to delete that stupid category "Front and Read Stands" on the home page.

Here you can see that "Front and Read Stands" were moved to the "Root" Dir, but I still got an error

I also tried to create a new category in the root level.

As you can see, it puts it right under Home/Home

Last screen shot is of mysql database where you can see the Home is the top level category.

Update, I was able to just hide the "Front and Read Stands" however when I try to delete it I get the same error that the Category does not exist. Any thoughts?

Ok, it looks like "accessories", 'apparel", and "performance parts" are "root" categories, as well as "home". A question, "home appears to have 107 sub-categories, and "performance parts" appears to have 240.

A little check reveals that 4-Stroke Leak Down Tester - SKU: SKU17364 is in
GPmotoparts :: Home :: Performance Parts :: Tools :: Testers, Tuners, Gauges & Adapters
as well as
GPmotoparts :: Home :: Performance Parts :: Tools :: Testers, Tuners, Gauges & Adapters :: Motion Pro

Is there any reason for that? What I am getting at is it looks like a lot of your products may be in for instance the "performance parts" category, and also in the "home/performance parts" subcategory. Does "home have subcategories named "accessories", 'apparel", and "performance parts", and if so, do those subcategories have the same subcategories as the "root" "accessories", 'apparel", and "performance parts" categories? It looks like for each product, the "additional categories" section lists a subcategory of "home" that has the same name as the category the product is in as the main category. Another possibility is you have duplicate products with the same name and different sku's (SKU: SKU17364 and SKU: 17364 are not the same), and yet another possibility is that somehow your products pages and your manufacturer's pages got combined. What a mess!

What happens if you go to admin - modules and uncheck "manufacturers"? You will probably need to clear the templates cache before you get a different result (admin - summary - tools - clear templates cache is a little over half way down the page).

To answer your original question "Hiding main categories" go to admin - general settings - general options and look for "If ticked, the categories list always shows root categories:"

Thanks for all your help! Yeah as far as the categories go.. we hired some data entry company to add a lot of the products and I have a feeling they messed that up as well as other things that I fired them for. Looks like I have a lot of work ahead of me cleaning this big mess up.

I give up now, this is just retarded! I cleared the cache and I have no idea if this is a result of that! I can not even modify my products now, everything looks like garbage!
