Default Static Pages

I have made the move to the xcart version 4 and have noticed a few differences - firstly I just wanted to check out a few things regards static pages:

Root static pages

1 - What difference does it make if I create a static page outside of xcart and upload it to the directory. Is the result the same as when creating a root static page within xcart or does xcart store some information in the database?

2 - I have altered my htaccess file to include php on root static html pages. It doesn't seem to have affected xcart at all and all seems to work with test orders... does anyone know if this will affect xcart in some way?

3 - At the moment I am using xcart in a sub directory www.domain.com/dir/ - so all my static pages are located in the /dir/ - if I move it all into the root within the config file - will all static pages work OK?

4 - Are root static pages included in the database backup?

5 - I can't seem to use smarty tags on these pages - is it possible?

Embedded static pages

1 - - Am I correct in thinking that the 'enable' / 'disable' option is for including a link to the embedded page in the side help box - but you can still create a link elsewhere on your site without it appearing in the help box?

2 - Is is possible to create another box like the help one for storing embedded pages - for example "Articles"?

3 - How do embedded pages work with the HTML catalog?

And finally - which is better - Root or Embedded?

Thanks for your time

Tye

Default static page links

I tried this. I created a link for certain static page to show under diferrent sections. I disabled it in static pages so as not to show under help section. lt wouldn't show up anywhere. It would appear only when the page is enabled. I concluded the page must be enabled.

I then inserted the corresponding hard code where I wanted it as in the following example:

Finally I removed the include pages_menu code under help.
So as not to repeat page links there.
