xcart version 3.3.8

Has been working fine until I made a change to the categories.tbl file (I had changed it years ago & wanted to remove one of the links). I made the change, it said it saved it, but in checking the live cart, the change was not there and the was an error message above the nav.

PHP Warning: Smarty error: problem writing '../templates_c/%%-12/%%-1253885908/categories.tpl.php.' in /home/stamps/public_html/xcart/Smarty-2.3.0/Smarty.class.php on line 589

After looking through this forum, I deleted the templates_c directory and made a new, empty one, set permissions to 755. That got rid of the error message and the changes to the navigation showed up right.

NOW, when I go to the admin area and go to modify products, the top, left & right areas are OK, but the center area where I would search for a product to change is just empty. Same for add new product, orders management and others.

Any ideas?

Pretty old version you are using so we aren't going to be much help. I'd suggest opening a ticket with X-Cart.

This problem was caused by a permissions problem on the templates_c file. It was set to 755 (on the host's recommendation) and it needed to be 777.
