re: displaying all products in a cat as thumbs on one/two pages.
I think products_t.tpl needs to be modified, but when i changed the table to @4 columns and 10+ rows then pasted in the code i just got a different product on each row, but repeated 4 times.

I would like it to look like :-

Sounds like you may have missed a piece of code in that mod. Go back and look though each line to make sure you didn't miss a closing tag somewhere.
