Default MAP Pricing, anyone dealt with that yet?

I deal with electronics and a lot of the manufacturers demand so called MAP pricing (minimum advertised price).

The thing is that it doesn't mean I can't sell for less, but the price visible has to be whatever the MAP is for the item otherwise I wonБ─≥t be able to buy it anymore.

So I see in other carts that people just show the MAP price but when it is added to the cart the discounted price is added up and they have a little note that says Б─°add to cart to see our low priceБ─²

Is anybody out there that has dealt with this issue yet? Or can anybody tell me what to change in order to get my pricing to work that way.

The important thing is that it can't be for every item I have, it needs to be selectable for every individual item.

Default MAP Pricing --> What it means.

Just so you know, MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) DOES mean that you can NOT sell it for less than the MAP! The only work around to this that SOME manufacturers present it to see the product as part of a "package" concisting of other items and the MAP item being no less than half the cost of the package. I have worked with several companies that have lost sales rights for doing just what you mentioned in the above post. Please be carefull, and if you have any questions, call and ask the manufacturers. Contrary to popular belief, it is better to ask than it is to fake innocence.

Well Darksied9,

Thanks for the reply but my manufacturers show this sentence in their MAP policy

"This policy only concerns advertised prices, and does not relate to
actual sales prices of any item. Further, this policy applies equally
to all distributors and dealers."

According to my lawyer that allows me to sell at any price, I just can't advertise is via the normal means of advertising.

On top of that I'm watching much bigger companies, like Amazon.com doing the same thing so I really don't think that applies in my case.

Thanks for the heads up though.

NO you were right...you may always sell your goods at any price you want if a manufacturer has issued a MAP pricing policy. Its strictly a rule for publicly displaying prices below a price.

Hi Darksied9,

I suggest you check on that. A company can not force a reseller to sell a product for a specific price as that would be price-fixing and it illegal in just about every country.

Actually...manufacturers can require that you sell products at specific prices to ensure the product is not de-valued by web retailers. It's not uncommon for more expensive things. God bless the web and and the surfers endless mission to find the cheapest out there.

I remember video game companies have been strict in the past on retailers not selling below x price-point for big releases. I think the retailers were party to some kind of gentlemans agreement or some kind of agreement, not sure how it worked exactly
