Restoring templates in 4.4?
Am currently evaluating X-cart 4.4. Have added test products, tweaked CSS and edited TPL files enough to have a good idea of how to proceed.
But, I can't see where the Restore templates commend has gone in the 4.4. admin control panel? It's mentioned in the Wiki/documentation as being on the Edit Templates page, but it's not visible on mine. I presume it's moved to a new position. I'd like to revert to a standard set of files and and start again. Anyone able to tell me where I should be looking?

Re: Restoring templates in 4.4?
OK. Have now gone through the individual templates and used the 'Restore File' button for each one in turn.
Bit of a chore, though, so a pointer as to where the 'Restore All' button went would be useful.

Re: Restoring templates in 4.4?
Easier to just re-upload the skin files via FTP

Re: Restoring templates in 4.4?
Take a note that if you are editing templates outside admin (for example with FTP editor) XC will not save copy of the file so you cannot restore from admin. And with 4.4.x there is no original files repository. So always make a backup of files before editing them

Re: Restoring templates in 4.4?
Thanks, chaps.
cfl - that's shocking! Presumably it's a 4.4.x (.2 I think I have) bug that qualiteam already know about? Think I need to get a better copy/backup routine going, if the admin panel is lacking. Noted for when I try Live Edit from Firebug. Speaking of which, using Firebug for Live editing of X-cart's CSS files looks tricky. Because main.css seems to be delivered to the browser with a long cached/temporary name such as .../var/cache/_5da7331b075a9d2e0484daeb5c1a21b0.css

Re: Restoring templates in 4.4?
It is not a bug, at least for me. You can, after install, just copy the whole skin directory as say skin_original so you can have it in case.
The second one - turn off speed up tools for js/css in admin general settings

Re: Restoring templates in 4.4?
Steve - you're a gent. Thanks for sharing re CSS. (cannot abide editing main.css through the admin panel's editor!)
Yes - 'bug' was overstating it. Going from a good built-in restore feature to 4.4's better-remember-to-do-it-yourself arrangment is just a bit backwards. Actually, it's the documentation being in need of a thorough rewrite that's the bigger issue for me. I'm guessing that with v5 on the horizon, it may never happen for v4.4. So I'll get busy with the Search function here.

Re: Restoring templates in 4.4?
Generally related to this topic, make sure your host is backing everything up and test the restore feature regularly, make a backup of any files you edit, and if you've downloaded the installer you should have it on your computer with all of the original files.

Re: Restoring templates in 4.4?
Cherie - I think you're right. I'm guessing that a lot of experienced XC store developers have a set of tools to help do these tasks efficiently. I'm still getting these tools together, and jumping from one control panel to another trying to make sure I don't miss something.
I'm coming from a proprietary cart where design+maintenance was all client side (using Access runtime) and the store was just uploaded as HTML pages. Never had to do much online, and backing up was all local. Just another learning curve
