Unless the original templates have been significantly modified, the original solution in post #4 by Balinor should work just fine.

Even in the most recent versions of x-cart, a table is used when a grid display is required for products. For a grid display, to keep all the heights of all the possible elements uniform would be much more difficult with a css only approach, unless fixed heights are defined.

So for the product name, you need to set the height to the maximum height needed for the longest product name you have (2 or 3 lines). Try different heights until you get it right.
