Home page of store layout change help....
I am in the process of customizing a store for a client and the enterance page is not the standard 3 column layout but once you pass that page and start viewing products the layout changes to a more standard view (2 columns).
For example: http://www.eluxury.com is similar to the layout they have with 3 banners down the side. Any idea how to accomplish this? Inital thought it would have to do some special coding to get this to work. Am I correct in my thinking?

After looking into this more it looks like I have to edit the php files to use a different template for the home page to create the desired layout that I want that is different than the other pages.
This seems like the right direction unless I can just get away with editing the templates rather than mess with the php files.

If you're just wanting to do "look" changes, then you should only need to edit tpl files. If you are wanting to do functional changes, then you'll need to edit php and probably tpl files.
Looks like you just need to edit the tpl files to do what you want to do. Maybe you should start with the standard 2 column layout and work from there. If you installed the 3 column layout, you can redo the install and just say to update the tpl files and not do a db import. HTH Carrie

When I first install my XCart, I chose the 3 cols format. I want to redo it to two cols format, I used the back button on the installation page trying to go back, it seemed it doesn't work well. So I have to manually edit the tpl files.
Actually the manually editing is very easy, only one file need to be changed: custom/home.tpl. Just move around the blocks there.

I think that Groovico mentioned that it is always best to install the 3 column layout because the latest changes may not be integrated into the 2 column layout (gets updated less frequently).
