X-cart versioning info:
Our company is constantly working on providing our customers with robust and reliable software. As a part of this program, we started to maintain X-cart stable branches. X-cart version has 3 digits delimited by period symbols (e.g. 3.3.0).
- The first digit means major changes in the architecture of the software.
- The second digit stands for new features added to the software.
- The third digit introduces bugfixes and usability features.
Branch is a number of releases which differs only by the last digit (e.g. 3.3.0, 3.3.1, 3.3.2 are all parts of the 3.3.x branch). Since only bugfixes are applied to the newer versions within the branch, there is a generic rule: the greater is the last digit more stable is the version. We maintain simultaneously 2 branches: stable and current. That means when X-cart version 3.5.0 is released we stop issuing releases for 3.3.x stable branch, branch 3.4.x becomes stable and 3.5.x becomes current. What branch to use is up to you, if you need new features you should choose the current branch, if you care much about reliability we recommend to use stable branch.
