I guess you are using schema properties defined within page instead in meta tags. W3C will show you error but according my experience google like this way. You can simply ignore W3C validation error as it will not going to affect page ranking & yes such warning are because of XHTML 1.0 Transitional as Microdata (that implements Rich snippet) are a part of HTML5 specification which is not supported by XHTML 1.0 Transitional.

In brief, it is better to leave these warnings, because they do not affect either the appearance of your pages or your SEO:
