This really is the new standard. With a manual backup you are always guaranteed to lose data. You should always have periodic backups downloaded to a local drive as a backup backup, but storage is cheap and redundancy is crucial particularly when you're talking about order information.
That said, it isn't something you should have to worry about, it's something you're host and/or server administrator should be doing for you.
