Or it could be simply X-cart being stubborn and not refreshing your template cache for you.
Some tricks to force that is to:
1. Log in to your X-cart admin
2. Click on webmaster mode link.
3. Turn it on
4. Turn webmaster mode back off.
5. Go to the summary link.
6. Click on tools.
7. Scroll down and clear the templates Cache.
That will force new language variables to be recognized. We're finding the recent versions of X-cart need this sometimes to refresh new language variables that are patched in using an SQL patch.
