I am happy to report that x-cart 5.3.4.4 using PHP version 5.6.32 works perfectly!
Am in absolutely no rush to move to PHP 7 as I don't need that headache
and absolutely don't care if it will shave off a few microseconds from page loads...as Google still does NOT use load times as a ranking factor.
