It's great that you'll be focusing on UX more. You could limit, or remove the need for jQueryUI entirely in favour of HTML5/CSS3, especially when it comes to modals/popups. There's so many
pure CSS alternatives out there.
I really hope in v4.8 you can manage to
defer *all* JS to just before the </body> tag, which will result in faster stores all round.
