Min memory dedicated to PHP for running XC5 is 256M. 1GB memory for PHP seems excessive to me.
I would recommend have your current service up to date - PHP 7.2 at minimum, latest MySQL or MariaDB, etc. Then see how the new XC5 site runs under development. You can always move to new improved server.
