Is there a way to extend the amount of time the recently viewed products are remembered and shown?

When I close my site and come back a bit later the recently viewed product still show. However after some amount of time the recently viewed products are forgotten. Is there a way I can extend this amount of time?

I am on 4.5 now and will be upgrading to 4.7.6 soon.
