What should I edit in order to add my company logo and to change the color settings other than using one of the pre-designed color combinations offered by XCart?

I have looked at head.tpl and I see where the default "xlogo.gif" resides but before I go tinkering with the code, I want to be sure I shouldn't be making these changes from some menu driven options section. And if head.tpl is the place to add my logo, then what directory should I be placing my image in?
