I agree with you. Taking out the cart.php is not a bad idea, but the cart.php is a page that gives the customer a chance to look over there cart. There they can change qty, remove, go back to shopping and also add discount coupons.

Now if yourself, Jon, x-cart or anyone for that matter comes up with a with a solution to skip the cart.php but still include the remove items, discounts, and a conintue shopping button, I would be all for it.
