We had our engineering team custom build cron jobs based on our vendors API feed. I would ask your vendors to see if they can supply you with a "API Product Feed". This would be much easier than having to manually import data, and thus decrease time needed.

Essentially what this does is it allows you to directly import in product data and important information directly into your database.

For us, we have 10 product feeds, that are setup on a cron job to automatically check for new product updates every 24 hours and product stock every 4 hours. Since our product catalog consists of over 10,000 items, its essential that we have the most up to date information possible to sell to customers.
