IMO it's best practice to use categories like this.
For example, if you have a blog split into sections Blog>News,Articles, Review
You would have the url like this
www.example.com/blog/news/news-name
www.example.com/blog/articles/article-name
www.example.com/blog/reviews/product-name-review
That way if a customer is really interested in your articles they can manually remove /news-name/ and arrive at
www.example.com/blog/news/ and they'll see more news.
It's easier to navigate and google always say make things easy for visitors etc
That's my opinion of course.
