- If I have a category icon for a subcategory, this picture shows up on the top of this subcategory page inside the first box.

- if I don't have a icon or a description for this subcategory page, then the smart template just displays an empty box at the top.

1) So, how do I make it so the category icon does not show up on the top of the subcategory page (I just want the icon to show up in a list on the root category page). Also, if there is no category description, how do it get rid of the first empty box at the top.

Your demo looks like it works the way I want it to.

2) How do you change the number of columns that subcategories are displayed in? I've tried many settings in admin (when choosing to "display subcategories list in multiple columns") - The subcategory lists just show up one after another, in as many columns that can fit in each row. I can't seem to have just 2 or 3 nicely formatted columns.
