4.1.11 needs to be patched to 4.1.12 and THEN you can apply the PHP 5.3 patch.

I thought the patch for 4.1.12 could be applied to earlier 4.1.x versions - see: this
It seems there was a little more to it - but I can't find the threads that describ any additional changes.
