BUT as it is now it generates random products from all over the site, i want it just to generate within its own category, people will never belive that they are not generated randomly otherwise.

I bet you got that idea from Amazon, cause I was thinking the same. But I do have a suggestion for you (if you are open to suggestions that is), it is better to have them randomly generated from all over the site, even if a particular customer does think it is random, that way prospects or clients have extra options and are not enclosed in any certain category.
Also, have you thought about the possibility of having at any givin' time a category with only one product ? It will show the same product as randomly selected because it has nothing else to choose.
