Images are not bad for SEO, they don't help but they don't hurt either.
Ask your self this, will the image help sell my products, if the answer is yes add it.
now, too many images can hurt page load times, so make sure you test. Most images can be optimized to load fast.
Firebug has a cool google page speed add on.
