and news was still hidden?

that sounds like maybe you've moved it inside an if statement that is hiding it.

can you post just this bit of your home.tpl, just the section with all the text only boxes,

first step is to get all the boxes appearing, then you can look at the code, ask your ssl source and the business bureau if they have anything else not a script maybe, just image and text you can use?
