Doesn't x-cart use a step-by-step process for checkout by default? Even the Fast Lane Checkout does this in a more graphic manner. Maybe you could modify Fast Lane to get what you are after. In most instances (if not all) it is better to eliminate the number of "steps" it takes to make a purchase. That is the main purpose of the BCSE multiple add mod, to let the customer add multiple items to their cart without have to go back and add more.
