Well it does come with some templates out of the box - "light and lucid" - you need to choose that really when you are installing - that is the best of the preloaded ones - but still not very inspiring. Getting another template is a great way to quickly change the site - but there are not so many true x-cart templates about. You can certainly change whatever you want - and you need to really if you want to stand out from the crowd.
