It doesn't make much difference - both have the same effect in the end.
However, for cleaner code you are best removing it totally - chances of you ever wanting dingbats put back are quite low I think!
Commenting out is great to check the effect of a change if you want to put it back shortly - but otherwise remove it, and then next time you edit the template, it's not so confusing.
Of course always keep a backup though.
