I have been trying unsuccessfully to get this working.
I checked the knowledge base of my hosting company (WESH) and found this,

For security reasons we DO NOT allow ANY remote database connections to any of our servers. We have closed all remote ports to databases on both the servers and our firewalls. To administer your databases, you will need to use phpMyAdmin from your control panel. This also applies to programs like NaviCat

I take it this means I can never use this software, unless I move to a different hosting company?
