FireFox is a great tool to help you mod the text colors and areas of the the x-cart skin.
What I did was simply highlighted the are on the page I wanted to modify, right-clicked and selected "View Selection Source". That usually tells you the *.tpl file or value in the skin1_c.css template to modify.
