Is anyone so naive that they would invest and develop a store in x-cart without the ability to edit templates (html, css) and take a stab at smarty?
I have been through more than a few carts, and I have yet to find a cart that is "non developer user friendly" that has the power and flexibility the users seem to want.
Non-technical users shouldn't be asking about template editing -- they will be disappointed, unless they want to learn how... and this is the place to start asking questions.
