Hey Jonathan, don't worry, we all did stupid stuff like that when first starting out
As neorag says, there is always a backup copy of the original templates in your skin1_original folder. However, when you get far along and have your site customized, you'll really want to make backups of templates before you edit them, as if you screw something up you'll lose all of your previous edits.
