Could adding custom mods cause email problems?

Just since yesterday (Thursday), my X-cart stopped sending incoming and outgoing email notifications. Prior to yesterday, while testing my site over the past 6-8 weeks, I was receiving and sending mail without any problem. This was after I added a few custom mods from the forum yesterday that this all started. I'm not sure if this is what caused this to happen, but I thought I would ask the experts. These are some of the custom mods I implemented, which work fine by the way: 
 
Adding a UPS Track It button to Email 
Displaying customer passwords in Admin under orders 
Color Coding Admins Order Status 
Tabbed Menu for Products - Didn't look right, so I removed 
Remove Profile Details after Registering, which I removed 
 
So I filed a ticket with tech support and all they could say is it's a server issue and not X-cart however, all my other programs are sending and receiving mail just fine through the same server. Kinda ironic that this happened all of a sudden after trying to do some customization huh? 
 
The real issue started after adding the "Remove Profile Details after Registering" mod above. I had complications with it, so I reinstalled all my backup files and simply went to "Languages->text->Applied Filter I typed in "msg_profile_add" and added my own HTML there so customers wouldn't get confused after they registered. This idea was given to me by Xcart tech support.  
 
But would any of this have anything to do with my email not being generated? I'm pulling my hair out and driving myself nuts on this one!!
