You need to use a larger product image for your product thumbnail and delete the
duplicate detail image.

It's not that the popup has two parts, it is that the original product image that is in the popup is smaller than what is set in Admin for the popup image size. You can either change this setting in Appearance Options to a smaller value or upload a larger image for the product.
